Harvest 2013 is complete and it has turned out to be one for the record books. After what was thought to be a subpar growing season, with cooler than normal temperatures through most of July and dry conditions in July and August, yields came in better than expected around the country and UFC’s receipts are evidence of a great crop produced in central Nebraska. At UFC’s 26 grain locations, just under 43.5 million bushels of grain were delivered this harvest, with 29.3 million bushels of it being corn, a record for UFC passing the previous best year of 2009.
Normally with this big of a harvest, your company would have ground piles at most locations. I am happy to report that this year with UFC’s facilities very near empty coming into harvest and our ability to ship 25 car units on the NCRC during harvest, we have much less grain in ground piles that one would think. In Nebraska we have 900,000 bushels of corn on the ground (covered with light tarp) that will be picked up by the end of December. The bunkers in Shelby and Tamora also have grain in them and plan to be picked up after the first of the year. In Kansas, we have 750,000 bushels of corn and 300,000 bushels of milo in bunkers and 785,000 bushels of milo and 170,000 bushels of corn on the ground. The milo ground piles will be picked up by the end of December, with the corn ground piles to be picked up shortly after.
We are very thankful for a good harvest and appreciate the opportunity to handle your production. At UFC we offer a variety of programs and options to handle your grain and would welcome the opportunity to work with you on your on-farm grain as well as the grain that is in UFC’s elevators. Our Origination Team is available to assist you with your marketing needs. Please feel free to call your location grain personnel, Maxine Goelz, Lori Wyman, Amanda Lemburg, or myself at 402-362-8404.
