CVA awards Oakland-Craig FFA Chapter with COLT Sponsorship

Central Valley Ag (CVA) recently awarded Oakland-Craig FFA Chapter with a sponsorship to send its officer team to the Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) to be held in May.

The Oakland-Craig FFA Chapter won the sponsorship by participating in CVA’s Co-op Month challenge held this past October. The challenge was open to all FFA chapters within the cooperative’s immediate trade territory. FFA chapters were invited to celebrate National Co-op Month by submitting a photo and writing a short paragraph explaining what a cooperative means for their community.

All participating FFA chapters received a backpack, but one lucky FFA chapter was randomly drawn to receive a CVA sponsorship that covered the registration fees for officers to attend their state’s leadership training.

Oakland-Craig FFA secretary, Hannah Moseman, wrote for their entry, “A cooperative plays a big role in our community because it houses and interacts with nearly every aspect of agriculture.  Cooperatives cover everything from feeding people and offering services to farmers to providing jobs and economic benefits. Central Valley Ag, our local cooperative has helped our Oakland-Craig FFA Chapter flourish! We have experienced tremendous opportunities and gained experience in numerous agricultural fields by partnering with CVA.  In the last year alone, CVA has sent guest speakers, sponsored meals, and showed us first-hand how they operate. Our chapter has had representatives speak to us about sales, marketing, agronomy, and grain.  Recently our chapter traveled to the Oakland CVA location to serve lunch to farmers during harvest.  This activity, sponsored by Midwest Bank, enabled us to be a part of the service component that cooperatives bring to the table, and the importance of giving back to shareholders, as well as the community at large! Our local cooperative has helped the Oakland-Craig FFA chapter grow and continue to learn, and we look forward to teaming up more in the future!”

CVA is committed to supporting local FFA chapters in their mission to develop agricultural leaders for the future. Several ways CVA can assist FFA educational endeavors includes: classroom speakers, job shadowing, contest judging, location tours, and scholarships. Please reach out to your local CVA location or contact CVA’s Human Resource Department for more information.

“FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of our students and CVA is proud to participate in agricultural programs that support those students,” said Clayton Hensley, CVA Recruiter. “It is a tremendous opportunity to support local chapters and our future leaders that will shape global agriculture.”
