Preparing for a Successful Feed Season
Aug 15, 2024
As the summer grazing season winds down, it is time to think about the upcoming feed season. CVA wants to provide the tools for your operation to have a successful feed season that is tailored to your specific needs. Our team has a variety of resources at their finger tips to help you feel prepared for the upcoming season. By utilizing these tools, CVA can help you from accumulating unexpected feed expenses. With CVA’s array of feed options we are confident that our team can aid in finding the perfect fit for your livestock’s nutrition, as well as your pocketbook.
Before digging deep into feed options, it’s important to realize what kind of forage your operation has available for the season. CVA offers forage testing for our producers, and this will help guide us in the right direction for your supplement needs. The quality of forage will largely affect how much supplementation you will need to provide to your animals. Feeding a higher quality forage will help save your operation dollars on supplementation. As we all know, forages differ from year to year. This is why CVA places such high importance on forage testing. This being said, what your operation fed last year may not be the best fit for you this year, depending on testing results. For more information regarding forage testing, contact our local CVA Feed Sales Specialist.
Once your forage quality is determined, looking into supplementation options is often much easier. CVA’s supplement lineup is one that offers options from cakes/pellets to grain mixes to tubs depending on your personal preferences and needs. One of the most popular options that CVA has available to add to supplements is BioZyme’s proprietary prebiotic, Amaferm. This prebiotic can be added to supplements for 17% more fiber digestion and 16% more volatile fatty acid production. This in return will allow your animals the ability to digest more of the feed they are consuming. One of our most popular cake options, CVA Power 23% cake, contains Amaferm. The CVA Power Cow tub lineup also has options available that has the added prebiotic as well. If you do not see an option that you feel fits your needs, CVA has the capability of customizing a formula specific to your operation.
Looking into the season ahead of us, visit with your local CVA Feed Sales Specialist to discuss your feed options early. CVA also has contract offers available for your supplement needs that are effective now through Friday, August 30th, 2024. Feed will be available for pickup or delivery from September 2024 – March 2025.
