Growing Interest in Hemp

Industrial Hemp has been a controversial plant for the past 70 years. It is still illegal to grow in nine states, including Iowa. But with new technology, increasing interest, and better education, the doors are opening, allowing Hemp to become a more accepted alternative crop for growers looking to diversify their operations. In 2019, only ten producers in Nebraska received a license to grow industrial Hemp. For the 2020 growing season, the state allowed an unlimited number of permits, resulting in 87 active industrial hemp growers in Nebraska.

WASHINGTON (June 17, 2020) — Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler is announcing the appointment of thirty-three members to the Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities Committee (FRRCC). Established in 2008, the FRRCC provides independent policy advice, information, and recommendations to the EPA administrator on a range of environmental issues and policies that are of importance to agriculture and rural communities.

Stephen Dirkschneider celebrated his 50th anniversary with CVA on June 1, 2020, at the Snyder, Nebraska location. Today, Stephen’s job looks very different than when he began in 1970. Back then, his days consisted of doing tire and oil changes at the station. He worked there for a short time before switching positions and driving a feed truck delivering feed to the Fremont area for hogs and cattle. He drove feed truck until 1986, where he switched to driving fuel and propane until 2006. Since then, he has been in working in Operations at the Snyder location.

Laura Carlson always knew the farm was a place of growth and happiness. She grew up watching her grandpa and father take pride from being farmers. While finishing up high school, she realized she had a similar passion. Through botany classes, Laura realized that she felt a responsibility to plants and the growth of them and began to recognize the impact that one profession like agriculture could have not only on her community but on the world. Today, Laura is proud to be helping her family farm 2,000 acres and manage a cow/calf operation.

CVA Announces Ted Beckner as Territory Manager of new CVA locations; former Farmer Rancher locations

(YORK, Neb.) – Central Valley Ag (CVA) is pleased to announce Ted Beckner as Territory Manager of the recently merged Farmers Ranchers Cooperative (FRC) locations in Ainsworth, Valentine and Springview, Neb. He will be responsible for management of operations for CVA locations in these towns and delivering value to CVA’s member-owners. Beckner has over 37 years of experience working in the cooperative system and was previously the VP of Accounting Audit & Strategy Planning for CVA Feed.  

Central Valley Ag, Farmers Ranchers Cooperative announce merger

(York, NE & Ainsworth, NE) Farmers Ranchers Cooperative (Farmers Ranchers) membership votes to approve unification with Central Valley Ag (CVA). After a series of informational meetings, accounting firm Gardiner + Company certified the owners of Farmers Ranchers approved the merger with CVA by a majority of 88%. The unified cooperative will retain the Central Valley Ag name and be headquartered in York, Neb. with Carl Dickinson serving as President/CEO.
